Man from last night's shooting dies

UPDATE: To clarify, Mr. Bynum has been declared brain dead, and the hospital is harvesting his organs for donation. He will not be taken off of life support until that procedure is complete, at which point his death will be counted as a homicide.

PRESS RELEASE:

The man who was shot at 11:23 p.m. May 19 at 10105 Freemont has died. He has been identified as 19-year-old Domineak L. Bynum of Kansas City, MO.

An officer was on patrol in the area of 99th and Blue Ridge when she heard several shots fired. Around that same time, police received several calls of shots being fired in the area of 101st and Freemont. Those callers also indicated a male was lying on the sidewalk. When officers arrived, they located the man, identified as Bynum, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Bynum was transported to an area hospital, where he died from his wounds.

Mr. Bynum's killing is the city's 44th homicide this year, compared to 42 at this date in 2008 and 35 in 2007.
